Fortune Ox is a PG Soft slot from the popular Fortune series, released in 2021, the Chinese Year of the Ox. Everything looks festive, with fireworks, oranges, coin bags and chests, gold ingots and a golden ox in the lead role. Built for portrait-mode phones, it uses a compact 3-reel layout that is 3-4-3 symbols high with 10 fixed paylines. Instead of free spins, the tension comes from random respins and a full-screen multiplier. The studio’s New Year announcement said outright that the Year of the Ox was the theme and that it wanted players to feel the holiday mood.
The golden ox and a 3–4–3 grid
The reels take up the top half of the screen, and under them stands the ox itself, a large figure that turns gold when the feature kicks in. The palette is red and gold, and the symbols are big enough to stay legible on a small phone. The technical sheet gives an optimal resolution of 1080 × 2340 and a required 19.5:9 aspect ratio, so the game was designed for a phone held upright. It runs on desktop too, but appears as a narrow column in the middle of the screen.
Three reels are three, four, three symbols tall, with ten cells and ten fixed lines. Each line takes one cell per reel; three matches from the left pay, with only the highest award per line. The screen paytable shows cash at the current stake, while the official sheet gives line coefficients, divided by ten for one line’s total-stake value.
| Symbol | 3 on a line (line bets) | Same in total bets |
|---|---|---|
| Ox (Wild) | 200 | 20x |
| Gold ingot | 100 | 10x |
| Coin chest | 50 | 5x |
| Coin pouch | 20 | 2x |
| Red envelope | 10 | 1x |
| Oranges | 5 | 0.5x |
| Firecrackers | 3 | 0.3x |
The Ox is the Wild, covering for other symbols while topping the paytable itself. Three oxen on a line pay 200 line bets, twice as much as ingots.
Substitution follows a “best pay wins” rule. Ingot, ox, ingot on a line counts as three ingots. Three oxen pay the ox price rather than the price of whatever the ox might have stood in for. Since every cell belongs to several lines, a single Wild can close more than one combination when the right symbols sit nearby.
At a €1 total stake, a line of three pouches pays 20 × €0.10 = €2 and another with two chests and a Wild pays 50 × €0.10 = €5, totalling €7. One firecracker line pays 0.3x and an orange line 0.5x: a paying line can return less than the whole bet. These prices do not establish the share of partial payouts.
Respins guarantee a combination, not its size
The key mechanic is the Fortune Ox feature, which may fire at random on any spin while the reels are turning. The ox under the reels turns gold, reels 1 and 3 land the same symbols, and the reels respin until a winning combination forms, so a trigger guarantees a win on that spin.
The logic is simple. With identical outer reels, the only thing missing for a payout is a match on the middle reel. The reels keep respinning, and the moment a matching symbol or an ox lands in the right spot, a line closes. How many respins it takes doesn’t matter; only the final screen is paid.
With matching outer columns of ingots, envelopes, oranges, a suitable envelope in the middle can close a 1x line. Matching ingots and a separate orange line with an ox can pay 10x+0.5x=10.5x along those lines. These are illustrative endings without assuming other eligible lines are absent. The final screen pays; interim blank respins do not generate separate awards.
A single-type full screen and 10x
Every cell holding one type and/or Wilds activates 10x. Before it, ten full-screen lines of oxen/ingots/chests/pouches/envelopes/oranges/firecrackers pay 200/100/50/20/10/5/3 times the total stake. After it they pay 2,000/1,000/500/200/100/50/30 times. All oxen reach the 2,000x limit. This is not merely all symbols participating in different wins, which is Fortune Tiger’s different condition.
If both outer reels and two middle cells hold ingots and the other two hold oxen, every line contains actual ingots and pays that price rather than the Wild’s. Total is 100x × 10 = 1,000x. The studio sheet’s example of a 200 stake and 2,000 before multiplication becomes 20,000: 100x, compatible with full-screen envelopes.
PG Soft’s return shares and frequencies
The 96.75% RTP comprises 72.58% regular play and 24.17% from the feature. Hit rate is 21.32%: 20.55% regular spins and 0.77% the feature, approximately one trigger per 130 paid spins. Return shares are not separate RTPs for a no-feature session; the mean interval is not a schedule, and these figures establish neither a typical prize nor recovery of prior losses. Medium volatility does not guarantee a smooth balance either.
Big Win at 20x–35x is listed once in 132 spins, Mega at 35x–50x once in 1,220 and Super Mega from 50x once in 409. The largest category is more frequent than the middle one. Full screens from oranges begin at 50x and can jump over the intervening band, but these thresholds do not prove the cause of every frequency difference. Screen weights, maximum-win probability and the respin-count limit are unspecified. slot specs helps read each measure separately.

Fortune Mouse was billed as PG Soft’s first game of 2020: its three middle-reel Wilds leave the outer reels respinning. Ox was the first 3–4–3 entry and reversed the respin sides, increasing the limit from 1,000x to 2,000x. Fortune Rabbit has a 5,000x limit; the 500x mentioned for its prize spins is a separate value rather than its overall maximum. Fortune Tiger applies 10x when all symbols participate in wins. Mahjong Ways 2 differs with cascades and a 100,000x limit. Other games are on PG Soft.
