The fishing series in retro sci-fi: the fisherman collects money, every fourth Wild extends the bonus, and cards and Repeat reshape the round.

Big Bass Reel Repeat review

Big Bass Reel Repeat came out on 11 August 2025, and Pragmatic Play’s press release called it a futuristic twist on the fisherman series. It has a 5×3 grid, ten lines, a 96.51% RTP in every mode. The name is deliberate: the game has a Repeat mode in which a finished free spins round can be played again with every win kept. The rules page in the demo carries a low volatility badge, which sets the game apart from many of its series mates.

Retro sci-fi and regular lines

The studio describes the theme as retro science fiction. On the intro art a toothy bass in paper 3D glasses leaps out of the water, and next to it a bearded fisherman in pink shades and a white lab coat holds a water blaster. On the reels a speedboat, a dragonfly, a blaster, a tackle box and a bundle of weeds pay, with cards from ten to ace below them. A Reel Kingdom logo sits in the screen corner, the studio’s partner on the series.

Ten paying symbols form combinations on adjacent reels from the left. The table uses total-stake units. The speedboat pays from two matches, other regular types from three.

Symbol 2 in a row 3 in a row 4 in a row 5 in a row
Speedboat 0.5 5 20 200
Dragonfly – 3 15 100
Blaster – 2 10 50
Tackle box – 2 10 50
Fifth by rank – 1 5 20
Ace, king – 0.2 2.5 10
Queen, jack, ten – 0.2 1 5

The main difference from the usual logic is that the fisherman Wild does not appear in the base game. By the rules it lands on all reels only in free spins. Money symbols also show up in the base game, but by the wording of the rules their values can be won only during the bonus. So an ordinary spin is lines, scatters and waiting.

Three, four and five Scatters start ten, fifteen and twenty spins respectively. Two Scatters can receive random help: if they can move down one cell without leaving the grid, their reels shift while the others respin; the other option adds a third Scatter after the result. Neither is guaranteed.

Twelve cards and money collection

Before the free spins the player picks one card out of twelve. A modifier may hide under it. This is what they do, according to the game rules.

More Fish increases money-symbol counts and the chance of a high value. Higher Multipliers changes collection stages to x4, x6 and x20. 3 Fisherman to Retrigger requires three fishermen and applies the multiplier from the next spin. Mega combines all three. Picking a card does not select its contents or guarantee a pay.

In free spins the fisherman Wild lands on the reels. It replaces every symbol except the scatter and money symbols, and most importantly it collects the values of all money symbols on the screen. Money symbols come with values of 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x, 1,666x, 2,500x or 5,000x of the total bet, and sometimes drop as giant 2×2 or 3×3 blocks.

Every Wild that lands during the bonus stays in the tally to the final spin. Each fourth fisherman collected triggers a retrigger: 10 free spins, and the collection multiplier rises to x2, then x3, then x10 on the fourth level. After the fourth level there are no more retriggers. The extra spins are played after the previous batch ends.

By default, extra batches play after the prior one; base stages do not apply immediately to that same spin, unlike the three-fishermen modifier. The Wild tally retains collected-fisherman counts rather than sticky substitutes on the grid. Listed values establish no weights; a claim that large sums are an order of magnitude rarer is unconfirmed.

The hook, Bass-ooka and separate Repeat

Besides the main mechanics, three random events can occur at the end of a bonus spin. If fishermen are on the screen but money is not, money can appear in random positions. If money is there but no fishermen, a hook pulls a random reel upward and brings fishermen onto the screen. And if fishermen stand there but money does not, a Bass-ooka! animation can change all symbols except the Wilds into others.

The random events cost nothing and are described as independent of stake size. After the bonus ends, Repeat can restart it with the same initial spins and modifiers, keeping prior wins. The press release lists a 50% chance for the repeat buy; retained collection stages and Ante Repeat probability are unexplained.

Stake modes, buys and the maximum

Regular spin cost uses ten stake units. Modes 15, 16 and 25 cost respectively x1.5, x1.6 and x2.5 of that base. Buy prices use regular base stakes; identical RTP across modes does not imply identical profitable-round probabilities.

Regular (10x) — Price: x1 per spin; What it gives: base odds; Cap: 5,000x; Cap odds: 1 in 4,728,133.

Ante 15x — Price: x1.5 per spin; What it gives: more scatters, buy off; Cap: 3,334x; Cap odds: 1 in 2,589,850.

Ante 16x — Price: x1.6 per spin; What it gives: Repeat after the bonus; Cap: 3,125x; Cap odds: 1 in 2,247,949.

Ante 25x — Price: x2.5 per spin; What it gives: more scatters and Repeat; Cap: 2,000x; Cap odds: 1 in 1,318,481.

Buy x100 — Price: x100 per entry; What it gives: bonus with a card pick; Cap: 5,000x; Cap odds: not given separately.

Buy x160 — Price: x160 per entry; What it gives: bonus and Repeat; Cap: 5,000x; Cap odds: not given separately.

Buy x1250 — Price: x1,250 per entry; What it gives: bonus with Mega; Cap: 5,000x; Cap odds: not given separately.

Lower Ante cap multiples use the increased total stake, preserving the cash boundary at an unchanged base; the table’s 3,334x is rounded. Reaching the limit terminates the bonus and voids unplayed spins. Buying Mega changes modifiers without raising the cap. Hit rate, natural bonus frequency and helper/card probabilities are undisclosed.

Earlier Big Bass games

Big Bass Bonanza arrived in December 2020, with 96.71% RTP, a 2,100x maximum and high risk. Big Bass Splash from 2022 has 96.71% RTP and a 5,000x limit. Big Bass Mission Fishin’ from 2024 lists 96.50% and 5,000x. The release sequence places Reel Repeat after Big Bass Bonanza 1000 and Big Bass Boxing Bonus Round.

The fisherman has appeared in Amazon, Halloween, racing and boxing themes. New cards, random modifiers and Repeat change round conditions; Low Volatility remains a studio label rather than a numerical guarantee of regular payouts.

Pros

  • One of twelve pre-bonus cards can enable up to three modifiers.
  • Three purchase options provide different repeat or Mega conditions.

Cons

  • Fisherman Wild appears only in free spins.
  • Ante modes use lower limits of 3,334x, 3,125x or 2,000x relative to the base stake.
