Wild Frames review

Wild Frames joined Play’n GO’s range of grid slots on 18 December 2019. It pairs a classic casino look, with card suits, bells, stars, diamonds and lucky sevens, with modern cluster mechanics. Wins need five or more identical symbols linked side to side, horizontally or vertically. The main idea is in the name: Wilds leave frames on the grid that build up multipliers and, at the top of the meter, turn symbols into Wilds. Its volatility is rated 10 out of 10 in the rules sheet, and a spin is capped at 7,000x the stake.

The grid, symbols and cascades

Play’n GO pitches the theme as the quintessential Las Vegas slot moved onto a grid. The backdrop is plain, made of purple geometric shapes, and next to colourful neighbours such as Honey Rush it looks restrained. The symbols, though, are big and instantly readable, which matters on a 7×7 grid of 49 cells where cascades reshuffle everything in seconds.

Nine symbols fill the grid. The four low ones are card suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades. The four premiums are a bell, a star, a gem and the seven, which pays the most. A golden Wild substitutes for any regular symbol and, more importantly, leaves a frame behind. The game has no scatters, no free spins and no feature buy; everything happens inside a single spin and its chain of cascades.

Paid clusters disappear and fresh symbols refill gaps until the chain ends. Rules sheet GRS1667 uses total-bet multiples, with a stake built from twenty hidden coins. Diagonal contact does not connect a group. A Wild substitutes for a regular symbol, participates in a pay and disappears with its cluster, while leaving a fixed frame.

Frames and four thresholds

When a Wild lands, it creates a frame in that cell. The frame is sticky and stays put until all cascades on the spin have finished; each new spin starts clean. The Wild itself behaves normally, substituting and joining a cluster, then disappearing with it.

If another Wild drops into a cell that already has a frame, the frame gains a multiplier, and each further hit raises it; reviews say frame multipliers go up to x9. The key detail sits in the rules sheet: all frames stay inactive until the Wild Frames feature fires. Until then, multipliers simply build up and have no effect on payouts.

After a losing spin, 4 to 6 Wilds may be added at random. The studio calls it potentially game-changing, and it helps twice over: the Wilds can form a cluster from scattered symbols and they leave frames at the same time. How often it happens is not disclosed, so do not treat it as a regular safety net.

One winning symbol gives one meter charge. Charge and frames last only for the current spin and reset after its cascades. Ordinary Wild drops, random assistance and Wildcard create frames by the same rule. Assistance and threshold frequencies are unknown; features can produce new clusters, but Transform does not guarantee sevens or a win.

Charges Feature Effect
20 Transform All premium symbols turn into one premium type
40 Wildcard 3 to 6 Wilds are added
60 Shatter All suit symbols are removed and a new cascade starts
80 Wild Frames Symbols under frames turn Wild and frames activate
Each 10 beyond 80 Overcharge Two extra frames at random

Activation and the highest multiplier

At 80 winning symbols, every symbol under a frame turns Wild and all frames become active. Each winning cluster uses the highest multiplier among the frames it passes through. Frame multipliers do not multiply or add together; only the single highest counts.

A group crossing 3x and 5x frames uses only 5x. For example, fourteen sevens with a 40x base pay receive 200x: frame multipliers neither add nor multiply together. Overcharge is described as two frames per ten charges beyond eighty, while the rules also say new charges have no effect after activation. This does not promise unlimited new frames after the feature; check overcharge timing in the version’s help screen.

RTP builds are 96.50%, 94.50%, 91.50%, 87.50% and 84.50%. The main build’s 1:2.21 hit rate does not describe payout sizes. The rules rate risk Very High at 10/10 while the studio page says HIGH at 7; these scales should not be merged. Limit odds are listed as 1.10791E-11, approximately 1:90 billion, rather than frame-activation frequency.

Viking Runecraft from April 2017 uses 7×7, 96.71% RTP, god gifts, a destruction meter and Ragnarök. Reactoonz from October 2017 uses 7×7, 96.51% RTP, quantum features and Gargantoon. October 2019’s Honey Rush uses honeycomb and 96.50% RTP; Gemix from 2014 offers crystals instead of casino icons. Wild Frames is distinguished by deferred frame activation rather than a separate free-spin round.

Pros

  • Frames carry growing multipliers.
  • Three Charge Meter features and random Wilds are described.

Cons

  • No free-spins round or bonus buy.
  • High volatility.
