Highway to Hell review
Highway to Hell is a Nolimit City slot about the skeleton motorcycle gang MC Hellbound, released on 22 April 2025. The grid is 6×4 with cascades, familiar studio mechanics and eight bonus spins in which a special lift symbol stores a multiplier. It is one of the studio’s tidier games by rules, with no dozens of modes and no heavy arithmetic.
Ways and what the symbols pay
Each reel is four rows high and combinations count by ways rather than lines: a symbol counts if it stands on neighbouring reels running left to right. The starting number of ways is 1,296. There are five low symbols: flaming dice, a flaming card, a thirteen of spades, a flaming skull and a demon face. The highs are five skeleton bikers. Six matching lows pay 0.3x to 0.6x the bet, six matching highs 1x to 2x. The Wild and the xNudge Wild substitute for any paying symbol, while the scatter and the Hellevator Booster trigger the Hell Spins bonus.
The biggest plain payout is two bets for six skeletons, so multipliers and growth in the number of ways decide the outcome, not the paytable. 27.74% of spins pay something, and a win of 100 bets arrives on average once in 968 spins.
Cascades and four Enhancer Cells
Winning symbols explode, new ones drop from above and the check repeats. At the bottom of the four middle reels sit locked Enhancer Cells. Each win in the chain unlocks one cell from left to right, and it reveals a symbol at once. If that symbol later takes part in a win and is removed, a new one grows in its place on the next cascade.
A long chain of cascades therefore does not merely pay several times, it gradually fills the bottom row, and each newly revealed symbol offers another chance to win. In addition, an xNudge Wild cannot nudge down onto a locked cell, so the order in which cells open shapes the Wild’s path.
Avasplit, xWays and xSplit: how the ways grow
When winning symbols explode, some of the remaining ones are picked at random by the Avasplit Effect and their size grows by 1. A large symbol covers more cells and is easier to assemble into a combination, but symbols larger than size 1 are out of the Demon’s reach.
An xWays symbol turns into an ordinary symbol or Wild and reveals two to four matching symbols, raising the number of ways. If several xWays land, they all reveal the same symbol. An xSplit splits all symbols on its reel, doubling symbol size, and turns itself into a Wild; it cannot split a scatter. Together with Avasplit these symbols keep changing the picture on the grid, which is why the number of ways cannot be counted in advance and grows during the spin.
xNudge Wild: each step adds one
A part of an xNudge Wild that lands on a reel nudges up or down until it is fully visible. The multiplier goes up by 1 with each step. If a symbol passed on the way already had a multiplier, that is added too. The Wild does not nudge down onto locked Enhancer positions. An xNudge can also begin with a higher multiplier if it came from a Hellevator Booster that already holds one.
An example. An xNudge Wild lands showing two rows of a reel and needs two steps to cover all four. Its multiplier grows by 2. If on those steps it passed a symbol with a 3x multiplier, three more join the total. Every payout involving that Wild is multiplied by the resulting value. Modest, but in a chain of cascades it repeats.
The Demon: a sweep and a multiplier for what it destroyed
On landing, the Demon removes a random number of symbols from the grid, except symbols larger than size 1, and turns into a random paying symbol. Its multiplier equals the number of symbols removed. If the spin has a win, the Demon acts after the winning symbols are cleared. If there is nothing to remove, it simply becomes an ordinary symbol with a 1x multiplier.
The more small symbols on the grid, the stronger the Demon: remove seven and you get a 7x symbol ready to join a combination. It cannot remove a Hellevator Booster.
Hell Spins and lifts that stay
Three scatters or one Hellevator Booster in the base game launch 8 Hell Spins. If a Booster lands at the moment of the trigger or during the bonus, it stays on the grid until the round is over. It reveals a random symbol beneath it; if that symbol takes part in a win, it is removed and a new one is revealed on the next cascade. Enhancer symbols reset on every spin, while the lifts do not.
A multiplier gained by a Booster is kept until the bonus ends, and everything revealed beneath the lift takes that multiplier. Symbols are revealed under all the lifts at once, so the more lifts on the grid, the more often multiplied symbols appear. If an xNudge raises a lift’s multiplier, that addition applies only to the current spin and drops back to the earlier value afterwards.
The scatter meter and the Extra Spin
In the bonus, scatters do not pay but fill a meter. Every three scatters give +2 spins and put a Hellevator Booster on the grid from the next spin, after which the meter resets. So one lucky spin both extends the round and strengthens it.
When Hell Spins end, the game sometimes offers to buy one more spin that keeps the lift multipliers from the previous one. The price depends on the stored multipliers. The offer appears only if the price is no higher than the win in the bonus or on the previous spin: you can only spend what you have already won, and after a weak round there is no offer.
The buy menu: seven modes
| Mode | Price | What it gives |
|---|---|---|
| xBet | 2.4x per spin | a guaranteed bonus symbol on the first reel |
| Bonus Hunt | 15x per spin | blank symbols, scatters or lifts |
| Hell Spins with three scatters | 60x | 8 spins |
| With one, two, three lifts | 100x, 180x, 350x | 8 spins and lifts at the start |
| Lucky Draw | 162x | a draw with a 30/20/30/20% split |
| God Mode | 3,800x | a chance to hit the max win on a single spin |
Each further lift at the start costs more than the last: the first adds 40 bets to the basic bonus price, the second 80 more and the third 170, while the number of spins stays the same. xBet guarantees a bonus symbol on the first reel and leaves symbol payouts unchanged, but the studio’s wording allows different readings, so check the details in the in-game help. Bonus Hunt guarantees that only blank symbols, scatters or lifts appear, so each spin is either empty or a bonus one; the studio does not publish the bonus chance in this mode. God Mode bets on the cap: a max-win symbol lands on an Enhancer position, and even on a hit the payout is only 5.3 times the price.
The bonus share of RTP and the cap
The studio splits the 96.03% RTP on its game page: 61.93% comes from the main game and cascades, 34.10% from Hell Spins, so about a third of the return arrives through the bonus. The bonus frequency of once in 198 spins covers both routes in, scatters and the Booster. A rough figure follows: the average bonus is worth about 67 bets (34.1 × 198 / 100), which explains why a purchase at 60x does not look mad, while the bought lift modes are dearer and built differently. A casino may also run a lower RTP version, down to 84.06%; you can check yours in the game information.
When the total win exceeds 20,066x, the round is cut off and exactly that limit is paid, under a screen called “Licence and Registration Pls”. The studio puts the probability of such an outcome at 1 chance in 10.3 million, so in practice the large wins come from a bonus with stored lifts.
Studio neighbours
Closest in spirit is the car game Road Rage with its road theme: it came out on 10 January 2023 with the same 96.03% RTP, the same very high volatility and an 18,466x cap. Mental 2, the sequel to a cult title (25 March 2025, 96.06% RTP, very high volatility), also uses symbol splitting and Enhancer Cells, and its 99,999x cap is far higher; San Quentin’s cap is higher too. The older Punk Rocker, from 12 February 2020, has high rather than very high volatility, a 96.01% RTP and a 15,072x cap.
