A Mexican street party on 25 lines: x2-x5 Wilds, 9 to 27 free spins and a 5,000x cap, with a x100 buy.

Hot Fiesta review

The press release for Hot Fiesta is dated 22 April 2021. The grid is 5×3 with 25 lines. Two ideas drive it. The Wild carries a x2, x3 or x5 multiplier at any moment. And free spins turn the Wild sticky and roaming: symbols stay on the grid but jump to a new place on every spin.

Spring 2021 in the studio’s line-up

The release followed Power of Thor Megaways and Wild Booster and joined the top-performing Sweet Bonanza among roughly two hundred HTML5 games in the studio’s catalogue. Chief Business Development Officer Yossi Barzely spoke of adding seasonal and innovative content. The studio’s pace back then was up to five slots a month. Mexican themes were familiar ground, but Hot Fiesta differs from Chilli Heat in its build: that game has money respins on the grid, low volatility and a 96.50% RTP, this one is pure Wild mechanics.

A street party in six characters

The action takes place on a Mexican street on a holiday: strings of pennants, flower balls and loud colours. The reels carry a mariachi in a sombrero, a lady with a rose, an accordion, a guitar, maracas and a margarita glass, while the low values are the cards A, K, Q, J and 10 with lime and flower patterns. The Wild looks like a colourful piñata with a big multiplier figure on it. The demo opens from the studio’s server without registration and runs on play money, and on its intro screen the piñata already sits on the grid labelled 2x, 3x and 5x, so the game shows its main idea at once.

What the symbols pay on 25 lines

Payouts run left to right across 25 lines, with one best combination counted per line. The values here are recalculated from the demo’s money amounts into fractions of the total bet.

Symbol 5 of a kind 4 of a kind 3 of a kind
Wild x40 x10 x2
Mariachi x30 x6 x2
Lady with a rose x20 x4 x1.4
Accordion x12 x2.4 x1
Guitar x8 x1.6 x0.8
Maracas x6 x1 x0.48
Margarita x4 x0.8 x0.32
A and K x2 x0.4 x0.2
Q, J and 10 x1 x0.2 x0.08

The richest line combination without a multiplier is x40 for five Wilds. Among the other symbols nothing pays more than x30. So big sums need multipliers and the bonus, because the lines alone will not carry them.

Wilds on the reels: x2, x3 or x5 on every spin

The Wild can appear on any reel and replaces everything except the Bonus. On each spin every Wild gets a random multiplier of 2x, 3x or 5x. The multiplier applies to the total win of each line the Wild belongs to. If several Wilds sit on one line, their multipliers are added to each other.

An example with invented figures: a line pays 10.00 without Wilds, and with two Wilds at x2 and x3 it gets x5, so 50.00. Multiplying would give x6 and 60.00, but this game does not work that way.

Added, not multiplied

Since the values add, every outcome can be listed. One Wild gives x2, x3 or x5. Two Wilds give from x4 (2 + 2) to x10 (5 + 5), with x5, x6, x7 and x8 in between. Three Wilds range from x6 to x15, not up to x125. Four reach x20 and five reach x25.

Many players who know Pragmatic Play expect multipliers in a series to multiply, as they do in Buffalo King Untamed Megaways. Hot Fiesta follows a different scheme, and the cap reflects it: 5,000x comes from a long free-spins run with several roaming Wilds, not from explosive multiplier growth. The most extreme single-line case is pure arithmetic: five Wilds pay x40, and a x25 multiplier total turns that into x1,000 of the total bet. The game does not promise this and shows no odds for it, but the rules allow it.

The Bonus on reels 1, 3 and 5

The Bonus symbol shows up only on the first, third and fifth reels. Three of them anywhere on the grid start free spins and themselves pay 3x the total bet. Lines have nothing to do with it: the Bonus pays by position on screen. The press release calls it a firework, while the symbol itself is drawn as a coloured cut crystal labelled BONUS.

Since only three of five reels carry a Bonus, a triple is clearly harder to gather than if the symbol fell everywhere. The ante exists precisely to speed that triple up.

Nine piñatas and 9 to 27 spins

Before the round the game shows a 3×3 field of piñatas. Each one bursts and reveals a number of spins, and all the numbers are added. By the rules the total can be anywhere from 9 to 27. That gives a guaranteed minimum of 9 spins and a maximum three times higher. Judging by the range, each of the nine piñatas gives from one to three spins, although the studio does not spell that out.

The round cannot be restarted: the rules state outright that there is no retrigger. So the spin count is fixed once, and the rest of the win depends on how the Wilds land. There are no Bonus symbols on the reels during the round, and special reel strips are in play; the rules do not list what they contain.

Sticky roaming Wilds in free spins

The round’s main feature is the Wild. Every Wild that lands stays on screen to the end of the round but changes position at random on each new spin. Its multiplier is still 2x, 3x or 5x and still applies to every line it takes part in. Per the press release, up to three new Wilds can appear on one spin, while earlier ones keep roaming.

Stickiness is combined with roaming here: the Wild does not vanish after a spin, yet it does not sit still either. One Wild therefore cannot clamp a single line for long, but its multiplier is present on the grid every spin, and its position cannot be predicted. The further into the round, the more Wilds on the grid and the better the chance they land on winning lines. Early spins are weaker, late spins stronger, which explains why a 27-spin round is worth clearly more than a 9-spin one.

One round in a million reaches 5,000 bets

The win cap applies in the base game and free spins alike. A round that touches the cap stops there: the money is paid and the unplayed spins disappear. According to the game data, this outcome occurs in roughly one round out of a million, so it adds only 0.50 percentage points to the RTP (5,000 divided by 1,000,000).

With the ante the cap is still 5,000 total bets, but the total bet itself is 40% higher, so the cash maximum grows by the same 40%. This detail sets Hot Fiesta apart from several other studio games, where the cap with the ante drops in multiples by exactly enough to leave the money unchanged.

Ante, purchase and RTP versions

Switching the ante on moves the bet multiplier from 25 to 35, making every spin 40% dearer. The studio promises a higher chance of the Bonus, because there are more scatter symbols on the reels. At the same time the free spins purchase is switched off.

Without the ante the round can be bought for exactly 100 total bets, and the price is shown on the button beforehand: at a 2.00 bet it reads 200.00. Like any bonus buy, it gets you one random round whose result can land below the price or far above it. The RTP is almost identical across the three modes: 96.56% in the regular game, 96.53% with the ante and 96.49% for the purchase, a gap of no more than 0.07 percentage points.

The total bet is the coin multiplied by 25, or by 35 with the ante. Coins run from 0.01 to 10.00, so stakes start at 0.25 and climb to 250.00, or to 350.00 with the ante. The standard demo stake corresponds to the 0.08 coin, which is 2.00.

What medium volatility gives a Wild-driven game

The studio calls the game medium-volatility, and a MEDIUM VOLATILITY badge shows up on the intro screen and in the rules section. How often wins and bonuses land is stated neither in the rules nor in the game data, so the design has to serve as the guide. Line prizes are modest, the Bonus lives on three reels of five, and the main value sits in the bonus where Wilds accumulate. The rhythm here is stepped: a run of small payouts interrupted by an occasional bonus.

Pros

  • Wilds carry 2x, 3x or 5x multipliers and move while remaining sticky during free spins.
  • A 100x purchase lists 96.49% RTP.

Cons

  • Wild multipliers on the same line add rather than multiply.
  • Ante increases the stake by 40% and disables bonus buying.

FAQ

How many free spins does the bonus give, and can they be extended?

Three Bonus symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 open a field of nine piñatas, and the total by the rules lies between 9 and 27 spins. There is no retrigger, so the count is set once for the whole round.

Do Wilds disappear after a win in free spins?

No. Every Wild that lands stays on the grid until the round ends and moves to a random position on each spin, and up to three new ones can join on a single spin.

How do the RTP values differ between the regular game, the ante and the buy?

The regular game gives 96.56%, the ante 96.53% and the free spins purchase 96.49%. The gaps are hundredths of a percent.

What does the free spins purchase cost and when is it unavailable?

The purchase costs 100 total bets, which is 200.00 at a 2.00 bet. With the 35x ante on, the buy button is disabled.

Does the maximum win change with the ante on?

Not in multiples: the cap stays at 5,000 total bets. But the total bet with the ante is 40% higher, so at a 1.00 base stake the maximum in money grows from 5,000.00 to 7,000.00.
