Nolimit City gives its slots changing reels, dark settings and features whose names begin with x. A symbol can split into several copies, a mine can gain another row, and a Wild can expand across a reel while building a multiplier. The name of the mechanic is only the starting point: the calculation and the trigger can change between games.
Tombstone RIP, Mental and San Quentin show that approach particularly clearly. Their large payout ceilings come with volatile results. A long run without a substantial win does not make a compensating bonus due. Paying for a feature also does not guarantee recovery of its price. An ordinary spin, a boosted spin and a purchased free-spin round have very different costs.
Choosing between the main game styles
The studio’s westerns, mines, prisons and psychiatric wards do more than change the background. Tombstone RIP centres on multipliers and two free-spin modes. Mental uses frames that split symbols. Fire in the Hole 2 combines collapses with coin collection. Nine to Five turns office layoffs and lawsuits into changes to the bonus round.
| Game | RTP of the listed model | Payout ceiling | Distinctive feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tombstone RIP | 96.08% | 300,000x | xRIP and two free-spin modes |
| San Quentin xWays | 96.03% | 150,000x | Jumping Wilds in Lockdown |
| Mental | 96.08% | 66,666x | Fire Frames and enhancers |
| Mental II | 96.06% | 99,999x | Frames, Fire Reels and xHole |
| Fire in the Hole 2 | 96.07% | 65,000x | A growing mine and Lucky Wagon |
| Nine to Five | 96.03% | 9,217x | Office bonuses with changing multipliers |
| Folsom Prison | 96.07% | 75,000x | Unlocking closed positions |
| Bushido Ways xNudge | 96.01% | 30,000x | A nudging Geisha and sliced Wilds |
These figures belong to particular mathematical models. The cap is expressed in base bets, rather than euros or the price of buying a bonus. Fire in the Hole 2 currently lists 65,000x in both its game card and its maximum-outcome feature description. A figure from another instalment does not replace that limit.
How xWays, xNudge and xSplit change between games
xWays reveals several identical symbols within a position, creating additional ways to form matches across neighbouring reels. It does not grant separate spins for the revealed copies. They still need to participate in a qualifying combination before producing a payout.
An xNudge Wild moves until its full height is visible. Each step generally changes its multiplier, but the final combination is game-specific. Mental II adds participating Wild multipliers; Nine to Five multiplies the values of consecutive Wilds. For values of 2x and 3x, those rules produce 5x and 6x respectively. Treating the two formulas as interchangeable changes the expected calculation.
Deadwood also adds Wild multipliers. Its Hunter Spins guarantee at least one Hunter Wild per spin. Gunslinger Spins instead retain a growing overall multiplier throughout the bonus. Two Sheriff badges can upgrade either mode to Shoot Out, where low-value symbols on the middle reels act as Wilds.
xSplit is not confined to the final reel across the whole catalogue. That position matters in Tombstone RIP, which splits symbols to its left. Folsom Prison uses splitting on the central rows of reels two to five. In Bushido, sliced Wilds on reels three, four and five become two, three and four parts respectively. The position is part of the rule, rather than a cosmetic difference.
Tombstone RIP and the removal of small wins
Tombstone RIP has a rule that deserves attention before any multiplier: xRIP reduces a spin’s total win to zero when it is below the base bet. At a €0.20 base bet, a €0.10 outcome therefore does not reach the balance. The threshold is the base bet, which should not be confused with the full cost of an enhanced spin.
Three hanging Scatters award eight Hang ’em High Spins. Different Wild types change the multiplier, which stays active during the bonus. Three hanging Scatters together with Boothill open a separate ten-spin mode. Cowboy symbols receive values from 5x to 999x, then transform into matching symbols at the end of that feature.
The game sheet puts the maximum-win probability at approximately one in 130 million spins. This is a property of the model, not a waiting period. Completing a large number of earlier spins does not force the next result. Once the payout ceiling is reached, the bonus ends; remaining spins are not an entitlement to a payout beyond the cap.
Mental and Mental II: frames and stored values
In Mental, Fire Frames split an arriving symbol into two parts. Four and six frames unlock extra enhancers. The Spider can transform symbols, while a Dead Patient receives its own multiplier value. Autopsy, Lobotomy and Mental free-spin modes change which of those elements stick and how they interact.
Mental II adds Fire Reels, which split a symbol into three parts. Enhancers use thresholds of four, six and eight frames, with a Fire Reel contributing separately to the count. xHole works only inside an active Frame or Fire Reel. Its sizes of two, four and eight describe that feature; they are not a universal multiplier applied to every payout.
Three Cognitive Scatters on reels one, three and five award eight Bloodletting Spins. One additional Disembodied symbol opens nine Surgery Spins, and two open ten ExperiMENTAL Spins. Surgery reduces the stored patient’s counter after transferring its multiplier. ExperiMENTAL does not reduce that counter. Similar-looking transfers therefore preserve the stored enhancement differently.
San Quentin’s Jumping Wilds
San Quentin xWays places locked enhancers above and below the reels. Bonus symbols open them, revealing ordinary symbols, a Wild, Razor Split or an xWays stack. The revealed enhancers determine the starting spin count; there is not one fixed number that describes every Lockdown entry.
Three, four or five Bonus symbols start Lockdown with one, two or three Jumping Wilds. They move to different positions between spins. Razor Split doubles their multiplier, and the increased value remains through the round, up to 512x. That persistence differs from an expanding Wild that simply fills its reel in the base game.
Fire in the Hole 2: clearing the mine
Fire in the Hole 2 begins with three rows and can grow to six. A winning combination, xBomb or Wild Mining triggers a collapse. Winning symbols are paid and removed before replacements fall into the gaps. An extra row creates more available positions, but it does not pay a prize merely for opening.
Special symbols buried under dirt remain inactive until exposed. An xBomb clears neighbouring positions and changes the multiplier for the following collapse. Wild Mining can create one to four Wilds from a group of matching symbols when there is no ordinary winning combination. Its trigger is different from simply paying that group.
Three, four and five Bonus symbols open Lucky Wagon with two, three and four starting rows. A new coin resets the counter to three spins. Dynamite doubles coin values, Beer reactivates old coins, and the Dwarf collects their amounts. The expensive five-Bonus purchase costing 3,600 base bets guarantees a persistent Dwarf; it does not guarantee a payout covering the purchase price.
Three other approaches to building a bonus
Nine to Five awards ten Middle Management Spins for three Scatters and twelve Ivory Tower Spins for four. A Layoff adds a spin and a Lawsuit removes one, with the Lawsuit processed first. During Ivory Tower, Tech Layoff increases the future multiplier addition, but Ctrl+Alt+Del divides the next addition by four and rounds down. A growing feature can therefore contain a reduction as well as an upgrade.
Folsom Prison starts with a narrow active layout and locked positions. Cockroach Nest opens more cells. Three Scatters trigger Walk the Line and four trigger The Chair; a split Scatter adds a spin. The available grid and enhancers are part of the distinction between those modes, so counting their free spins alone misses an important difference.
Bushido Ways xNudge uses a large Geisha on reel three. It fills the reel and gains multiplier value with each nudge. Shogun Spins and Geisha Spins guarantee Wilds on different reels, and the latter retain the Geisha and its multiplier. There is no mine-style coin collection or Mental-style patient counter: an upgrade animation is not evidence that two features follow the same rules.
The actual price of boosts and bonus purchases
Feature prices are calculated from the selected base bet. Seeing €0.20 on the stake control does not mean every action costs twenty cents. A boost is charged for each applicable spin; a purchased round is charged in full when bought. Comparing both at the same base bet and in the same currency makes the difference clear.
| Action | Price relative to the base bet | At a €0.20 base bet |
|---|---|---|
| Tombstone RIP Enhanced | 10% additional cost | €0.22 per spin |
| Folsom Prison Toast | 20% additional cost | €0.24 per spin |
| Fire in the Hole 2 xBet | 250% total cost | €0.50 per spin |
| San Quentin: three / four / five Bonus symbols | 100x / 400x / 2,000x | €20 / €80 / €400 |
| Fire in the Hole 2: standard purchases | 70x / 200x / 600x | €14 / €40 / €120 |
| Nine to Five: Middle / Ivory / Lucky Draw | 75x / 200x / 125x | €15 / €40 / €25 |
| Bushido: Shogun / Geisha | 75x / 700x | €15 / €140 |
Tombstone RIP Enhanced guarantees one Scatter, rather than a free-spin trigger. Folsom’s Toast guarantees a Scatter on reel two. Fire in the Hole 2 places one Bonus symbol in the last inactive row. These are purchases of particular elements, which may still fail to complete a bonus, rather than purchases of an already-triggered round.
Mental II offers boosts costing 1.4, 6, 99, 3,200 and 6,666 base bets. Its most expensive God Mode creates a chance to land an xGod on every reel. Only satisfying that condition produces the maximum payout; the mode’s name and price do not guarantee it. Nine to Five’s 1,370x God Mode similarly gives a chance to build a fully stacked Mega symbol.
RTP, hit frequency and maximum win measure different things
Tombstone RIP has 96.08% and 94.08% RTP models. The first Mental has 96.08% and 94.20% settings. Enhanced Tombstone RIP lists 96.28% and 94.25%. A percentage near 96% cannot be applied to every installation simply because the studio’s logo is the same.
A higher RTP in an enhanced mode does not necessarily mean a lower cost for the same number of spins. One hundred ordinary €0.20 spins create €20 of turnover. At 96.08%, the mathematical average loss on that turnover is about €0.78. One hundred €0.22 enhanced spins create €22 of turnover; at 96.28%, the corresponding figure is about €0.82. These calculations compare the models, rather than predict either session’s actual result.
Hit frequency is the model’s proportion of spins producing a win. Tombstone RIP lists 9.08% and Mental lists 34.19%. A small payout can be below the charged amount, so a hit is not necessarily a profit. A free-spin frequency of one in 194 also does not promise a bonus on spin 194. Previous losing spins do not create a queue for a later win.
Ownership, licensing and regional editions
The studio was established in 2014, with Jonas Tegman among its co-founders. Evolution completed the acquisition on 8 August 2022. The arrangement included €200 million upfront and up to €140 million in additional consideration depending on 2022–2024 results. The maximum transaction value was not an unconditional payment of the whole earn-out at completion.
Nolimit City Limited is registered in Malta as C 54001. It lists MGA/B2B/299/2015, issued on 1 August 2018. Britain’s register shows active remote Gambling Software and Game Host (Casino) permissions under UKGC account 52097. These identify the supplier; an individual casino’s licence and the player’s cash-account agreement are separate matters.
Evolution’s US announcement of 13 June 2024 named Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Buffalo Hunter was the initial title. That announcement gave the US Tombstone a maximum of 11,456x, so an older 5,000x figure cannot describe every edition of the original. Cash play uses the build supplied in the applicable market, which can differ from an identically named release in another country.
Demo access and the Playin account
The official website now connects with Playin. Its FAQ describes a service without real-money play and says card details are not required to try games. Playin Coins have no monetary value and cannot be withdrawn or exchanged for cryptocurrency. The option to redeem coins for shop rewards does not make them a casino cash balance.
The service terms block website visits from Australia, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Taiwan. They separately restrict account creation and demo access for residents of Belgium, Cameroon, Canada, India, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Romania, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and Vietnam. Those are Playin restrictions, rather than a ready-made country list for every casino carrying Nolimit games.
A free-play version can help explain frames, collapses and multiplier labels, but it cannot reveal the outcome of a later cash session. Mental uses HTML5 for desktop and mobile devices. Flash or a separate HTML5 application is not required for that technology. The actual title, regional edition and available features matter more than the interface language.
