Moon Princess review
Moon Princess arrived from Play’n GO on 26 July 2017 and grew into a signature title for the studio. It has an anime look, with three princesses, Love, Star and Storm, standing beside the grid, each with her own magic. Play happens on a 5×5 grid without paylines: three or more matching symbols in a row, horizontally or vertically, form a win. The twist is that the real goal is to clear the grid completely, because that is what unlocks the free spins. The idea later spread across a whole family of games, and in 2026 the studio released a reworked version with a far higher ceiling.
Rows, columns and mixed princesses
A win is three, four or five identical symbols side by side in a row or a column. Every row and column is active, and one symbol can count in more than one combination, say a horizontal three and a vertical four at once. Diagonals don’t count.
The bet is made up of twenty hidden coins with values from €0.01 to €5, so a spin costs €0.20 to €100. The default coin is €0.10, making €2 per spin, and each operator may pick its own default. It is easiest to think in total bets straight away, since every pay in the rules is quoted that way.
| Symbol | 5 in a row | 4 in a row | 3 in a row |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moon (Wild) | 50 | 3 | 1 |
| Any single princess (HP1–HP3) | 10 | 1 | 0.3 |
| Mixed princesses | 5 | 0.5 | 0.2 |
| LP4, LP3 | 3 | 0.3 | 0.15 |
| LP2, LP1 | 2 | 0.2 | 0.1 |
| Grid clear in free spins | 100 | ||
The paying set is a Moon Wild, three princesses and four low trinkets. Different princesses can form a paying row together. Mixed fives and fours pay half their uniform counterparts, but threes pay 0.2x versus 0.3x, not half. For example, two Love, two Star and one Storm in a continuous row give 5x before the multiplier. Unspecified symbol weights prevent claiming mixed rows are more frequent solely from the number of types.
Drops without refills and Girl Power
Symbols in a win vanish and those higher up in the same column fall into the gap, which can create new wins. Each drop raises the win multiplier. When a winning combination is exactly three symbols long, the Wild Moon appears where the middle symbol was, ready to help on the next drop. No new symbols fall in from the top; the grid only empties.
That is what makes the game unusual. In most cascading slots the gaps refill, but here each chain leaves fewer symbols on the grid. When nothing more matches, the spin ends and the next one starts with a full grid. One more rule: if only Wilds are left, they are removed as well, which helps towards a full clear.
A three frees two positions because its middle becomes a Moon; a four or five disappears without that replacement. Girl Power after a blank regular spin is random: Love transforms one type into another, Star adds 1–2 Wilds and Storm removes two types. This may extend a chain without guaranteeing payment. With no matches or effects remaining, the next paid spin begins a new full grid.

Princess Trinity and separate free spins
The meter on the right charges only from wins with princess symbols, and a moon can be part of those rows. It has three segments: a five fills it at once, a four adds two segments and a three adds one. Low-pay wins don’t move it.
When it is full and no further wins remain, you get one free round with special rules. The drop multiplier resets, and the three princesses use their powers in turn, always in the same order: each time a chain stops, the next heroine steps in. The round runs until all three powers have been used. As an example, a princess three adds one segment and a four shortly after adds two more, the meter is full, and the special round starts once the chain ends.
Clearing all 25 symbols opens free spins and a heroine choice. During free spins the meter does not start a separate Trinity round: it adds spins according to the choice below. The selected princess’s power applies after every blank feature spin. A feature grid clear gives a fixed 100x; applying the multiplier to this prize is unspecified, so it cannot be multiplied further.
| Princess | Starting spins | Per full meter | Power in the round |
|---|---|---|---|
| Love | 4 | +4 | turns one symbol type into another |
| Star | 5 | +3 | adds 1–2 Wilds |
| Storm | 8 | +2 | destroys two symbol types |
The drop multiplier carries between free spins up to 20x, with the round limited to twenty spins. Counting extensions alone, Love reaches that limit after four full meters, Star five and Storm six: 4+4×4, 5+3×5 and 8+2×6. This is extension arithmetic rather than fill frequency, mean prize or value comparison. Separate heroine RTPs are not listed, so more starting spins do not establish a better return.
Maths versions and the game family
RTP is 96.50%, with 94.51%, 91.49%, 87.50% and 84.50% versions. The first wins once per 3.15 spins; the cap is 5,000x, with rules odds below one per 160 million. Clear frequency is unspecified. The studio site rates risk medium at 6/10, while the 2017 sheet says very high at 10/10; the discrepancy is unexplained. These ratings do not establish that the scale changed over time. volatility explains the measure.
There is no bonus buy; bonus buys explains that option in other games. August 2018’s Rise of Olympus uses gods and similar clearing with a 5,000x cap. 2022’s Moon Princess 100 raises the multiplier and spin limit to a hundred. Extreme of 30 July 2026 has 96.20% RTP, high volatility, a 50,000x cap and a 0.1 minimum. February 2026’s Rise of Olympus 1000 uses 6×5 with eight-symbol pays anywhere instead of clearing. Reactoonz offers a larger grid with different cluster counting.
