Piggy Riches 2 Megaways review
A gentleman pig in a top hat, a lady pig with a stack of presents and a piggy bank that bursts into coins: Red Tiger released Piggy Riches 2 Megaways on 19 June 2024. The 6 by 7 grid offers up to 117,649 ways, RTP is 95.71%, and hit frequency stands at 33.93%, so roughly one spin in three pays. On the studio site volatility shows as Insane, and the Hold and Respin bonus can be bought for 75x, 150x, 350x or 900x the stake.
Pigs, money and seven rows
The studio’s blurb is brisk: bring home the bacon. The game continues Piggy Riches Megaways, and its bonus is built around locking symbols in place: a whole barnyard bookkeeping of pigs, money bags, purses and piggy banks.
In Megaways the number of ways equals the product of the heights of all six reels. Each reel grows to seven rows, so the maximum is 7 to the sixth power, or 117,649. If every reel has four rows, it is 4,096, and with heights of 3, 5, 4, 6, 2 and 7 the product is 5,040, so from spin to spin the count of combinations can differ by tens of times. In the bonus the height grows through keys instead, and the maximum is seven as well.
The base game has royal symbols and ordinary pictures. Seven pictures from that set become special in the bonus: they keep their look but stop paying as before and work as mechanics. The base game stays familiar, while the whole surprise lies in the role reversal at the door of the bonus.
Gentleman Pig: a Wild on reels two to five
In the base game the lead, Gentleman Pig Wild, takes over reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 but never occupies the second and third together. This is a super Wild with a symbol multiplier from x2 to x7. It stays in place until all chain reactions are finished.
The rule about reels two and three turns easily into arithmetic. A single Wild can stand on four reels. A pair allows five variants: 2 and 4, 2 and 5, 3 and 4, 3 and 5, 4 and 5. A triple comes in just two kinds: 2, 4, 5 or 3, 4, 5. Four is impossible. That makes eleven permitted layouts, and none has more than three pigs at once. How the x2 to x7 multipliers combine when several Wilds land is not said in the description, so that is worth checking in the rules window.
Hold and Respin: a wheel, money and three lifelines
Three or more Scatters start the Hold and Respin bonus. Before the first respin the player spins a wheel, which decides how many Cash symbols land on the reels straight away (2, 3, 4, 5, 10 or 15) and how many Saves the player gets (from one to five). Cash symbols won are placed at random on the reels and stay locked, while Saves are shown above the reels. The minimum start is two Cash symbols of 1x, which is 2x; the maximum is fifteen Cash symbols of 10x, which is 150x, plus five Saves.
Then a three-attempt rule applies. Each new Cash or special symbol resets the spin counter to three. If three spins in a row bring nothing new and Saves remain, one Save is spent to add a Cash symbol at a random empty position, after which the counter is three again. When every position is filled, remaining Saves are added to the win.
The Cash values are multipliers of the current stake: 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x. An upper boundary can be sketched: if Cash of 10x lands on all 42 positions the total is 420x, and with Money Bags of 100x it is 4,200x. Both cases leave out Gentleman Pig and Lady Pig, who lift the sums further.
Seven special symbols and what they do
| Symbol | What it does in the bonus |
|---|---|
| Gentleman Pig | value 5x, rising 10x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 100x and added to Cash, Money Bag and Purse; does not lock |
| Lady Pig | multiplier from x1 grows by 1 with each landing, collects Cash, Purse and Money Bag and leaves a present |
| Money Bag | random value 30x, 50x, 75x or 100x; locks |
| Piggy Bank | value 1x to 10x, breaks on landing and hands it to neighbouring positions |
| Purse | collects Cash symbols until it holds at least 5; locks |
| Credit Cards | raise Gentleman Pig’s value and Lady Pig’s multiplier; do not lock |
| Key | adds a row on top, up to a maximum of 7 rows |
Apart from the Cash symbols themselves, only the Money Bag, the Purse and Lady Pig’s presents stay on the grid all bonus long; the other special symbols come and go.
Gentleman Pig and the ladder from 5x to 100x
Gentleman Pig has a value scale: 5x, 10x, 15x, 25x, 50x, 100x. It is shown above the reels and resets after the bonus. When he lands, the values of Cash, Money Bag and Purse symbols on the reels rise by his current number. Take an example: three Cash of 5x and one Money Bag of 50x sit on the reels while the pig stands at 10x. His landing adds 10x to each of the four symbols, 40x in total, on top of the 65x already there.
The scale shows where the acceleration hides. The pig’s first appearance is worth 5x per symbol, the fourth 25x, the sixth 100x. That makes Credit Cards especially valuable in the bonus: they move the scale to the next value and lift Lady Pig by one.
Lady Pig and her presents
Lady Pig starts with a multiplier of x1 and raises it by one with each landing. On arrival she gathers the values of Cash, Purse and Money Bag, multiplies the sum by her current multiplier and leaves a Present on her spot, which stays locked until the bonus ends. So the sum turns into a single symbol, though it can still be grown later.
A present stores the sum multiplied by Lady Pig’s multiplier at the moment she landed. Later appearances are therefore worth more than early ones, and the effect of Credit Cards on Lady Pig’s multiplier matters more late in the bonus than early.
Purse, Piggy Bank and Money Bag: how money moves across the grid
The Purse works as a collector. It takes the values of Cash symbols and accumulates them until the sum reaches at least 5. If several purses are on the grid, each keeps collecting until it reaches the threshold. This turns a scatter of small values into one large one.
The Piggy Bank works the opposite way: on landing it breaks and its value of 1x to 10x is scattered over neighbouring positions horizontally, vertically and diagonally. A position has up to eight neighbours, so a piggy bank of 10x can spread as much as 80x over the grid, placing Cash on empty cells or adding values to those already there. The Piggy Bank itself does not lock.
The Money Bag is the simplest: a random value of 30x, 50x, 75x or 100x that stays on the grid. One Money Bag of 100x equals ten Cash symbols of 10x, so a key aim of the bonus is to see them often and let Gentleman Pig raise their values.
Keys and a growing grid
The Key symbol adds a row above the reels. The maximum is seven rows, and once every row is open, keys stop landing. An extra row increases the number of positions for locking, meaning the places where Cash symbols can stand.
The purchase figures hint at the starting height. The 900x buy gives three extra rows while the cap is seven, so the plain entry apparently starts from four rows. That is an inference from the arithmetic, not a studio figure. It would put the starting positions at 6 by 4, or 24, and at seven rows 42.
Bonus buy: four steps from 75x to 900x
| Buy | Scatters | Extra rows | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hold and Respin | 3 or more | 0 | 75x |
| Hold and Respin with one row | 4 or more | 1 | 150x |
| Hold and Respin with two rows | 5 | 2 | 350x |
| Hold and Respin with three rows | 6 | 3 | 900x |
The price ladder looks non-linear. The first extra row costs 75 bets, the second 200, the third 550. Each further row is dearer than the last by a multiple, and what is paid for is not only the row but a more generous set of Scatters. Even the 900x buy guarantees only six Scatters and three extra rows, not the size of the payout. The game does not show bonus frequency, so a purchase cannot be compared with a natural entry on price.
A caveat on the data: in the game record on the studio site the bonus buy flag is switched off, while the Feature Buy function is described in detail in the features list.
A 33.93% hit rate and an index of 31.92
A win on every third spin sounds almost like a medium-volatility game. But with thousands of ways many wins pay back less than the stake. Assuming the stated frequency and independent spins, three dead spins in a row come up about 29% of the time and ten only about 1.6%, so gaps between wins are short. The wait for the bonus, though, may be long.
On the Red Tiger site a game’s volatility is shown as an icon and a word. The word depends on a numeric index: below 9.9 it is Medium, from 9.9 to 17.3 High, from 17.3 to 27.3 Extreme, and from 27.3 Insane. Piggy Riches 2 Megaways has an index of 31.92, so it falls in the top category.
The thresholds are taken from the studio page script and describe the site’s scale, not an industry standard for slot volatility. The numeric index is useful precisely for comparing Red Tiger games with each other: Zeus Lightning Megaways stands at 39.23, seven points higher. Another studio Megaways with very high volatility, Gonzo’s Quest Megaways, works as a contrast.
The series and the gaps in the studio data
The first part, Piggy Riches Megaways, arrived on 23 January 2020 with the same 95.71% RTP and a 10,000x cap, so the return in the series has stayed put. Later, on 26 August 2025, NetEnt released Piggy Riches 3: Hog Heaven with a 96.06% RTP and a 10,300x cap.
For the second part the studio names no maximum win: the page and the record both leave it blank, which makes comparison with games that state a cap exactly difficult. The materials also give no probabilities for the wheel and Cash values and no breakdown of the return between base game and bonus. For those used to Nolimit City or Play’n GO sheets with such numbers, that is a real gap.
